Four Years From Now...

Four years from now,
Will too much have changed?
Will everyone have moved on
To a new, unknown world
While I stay caught
In my own emotional rain?

Four years from now,
Will we still have our range
Of A's, B's, Cs, D's, and maybe F's?
Or will a new sickness have
Infected our minds,
With the same scores,
Same grades,
Every semester,
Every day?

Four years from now,
Will we continue to greet each other,
With our tired smiles in the fall?
Would we still
Pelt each other lovingly,
With fragments of ice in the winter?

Four years from now,
Will the first breath of spring
Still kiss us upon our cheeks,
And invite us outside
To run, dance, chase, and fly
Through the endless fields of innocence?
Will our summers still be
Joyfully wasted,
Abusing the sweet gift of freedom,
While missing each other to death?

Four years from now,
Will we look back
At where it all began,
And come home to visit
Every once in a while?

Four years from now,
Would you still remember
Our imperfect, yet so beautiful past?
Or will even the sweet, unforgettable memories
That we created together,
Become stained and replaced with ashes?

Four years from now,
If the nights have grown colder,
And the stars have faded to black,
If you could look deep into my eyes,
And see yours,
Forever reflected in mine,
Then maybe you wouldn't forget
What slowly drifted away with time...

...But if you don't remember,
At least I still would.
Our past has been so important;
Let it never be forgotten.
