The Dark Abyss

by The Even Numbered Nephew   Jun 21, 2007

What is this-
this dark abyss?
Will it end too early or too late?
It weaves and twines,
and slowly binds
our lives to future and to fate.

As we begin
this race within
we strive to finish first.
We twist and turn,
but never learn
that we've only done our worst.

The Golden Rule-
the cup's half full-
when will we ever learn?
We reach for stars,
but battle scars
are all we ever earn.

We fall through this-
this dark abyss.
Will it end too early or too late?
It weaves and twines,
and slowly binds
our lives to future and to fate.
