Tanzania

Before you read this poem there are some things you ought to know to be able to understand it. As a child I lived in Tanzania for 4 years, and I always saw it as my home. I recently returned to only discover it is everything but..

Tanzania is still home,
As home as it could ever be,
Only one thing has changed,
And that thing would be me,

The girl who once lived here,
Was independent and strong,
Yet the girl who I am now,
Does not belong,

I see traces of me,
So familiar yet so unknown,
She's hardly able to recognize,
Into whom I have grown,

We stand looking at each other,
As strangers who've just met,
Yet with a history,
We can't seem to forget...
