Too Late (a poem I wrote when I was 15)

by Brooke   Aug 18, 2014

Does anyone know you are feeling depressed, you're cutting your wrists, you're making a mess.

Does anyone know what you're feeling inside? Your hearts cracking and breaking, you're wanting to die.

Does anyone know what runs through your head? The things that they said, more reasons to be dead.

Does anyone see your sanity flaking away? You're crazy you're psycho they need to lock you away.

Has anyone noticed your mask slipping away? The real you is scared, you have nothing to say.

Has anyone seen the cuts that are all up your arms? They're the words you're not saying but screaming instead.

Has anyone told you how beautiful you are? You're eyes are so pretty and bright and they shine just like stars.

Has anyone told you that you make them laugh, with your silly jokes and your funny comebacks?

Has anyone told you that they need you around, that life wouldn't be the same if you just up and left town.

Has anyone noticed that you're cleaning your stuff, so they don't have to clean up this mess themselves.

Has anyone found out that you're saying good bye, you're leaving forever but no one knows why.

Has anyone noticed that gun to your head?

But I guess it's too late 'cause you're already dead.

Loved the repetitive feel to this, but to me it reads much like a story. Each stanza flows well with the other connecting well. Of course I think if you added any other emotion in, it wouldn't have worked because that would have thrown off the flow. Sadness really is a fickle thing. The emotions here are very real and not a lot of people understand that at all. "Has anyone told you". No it seems like they haven't. But it builds up more and more until the pain overflows and then to everyone's surprise you are just gone. Then they say they had no idea. Very depressing. Excellent write
