Sweet Soldier Boy

by Katie Walsh   Jul 12, 2016

Soldier boy, you are getting weary now,
Your feet are aching so.
You mustn't give up just before the end,
As victory is within your hand.
For now, please rest, your time is not yet,
Sleep, sweet soldier, and rest your sleepy head.

Sweet little soldier boy, you march the whole day through
Sweet little soldier boy, you much thank the sun for rising
Sweet little soldier boy, you know home misses you
Sweet little soldier boy, you know you miss home too

Soldier boy, your eyes are dull,
Your innocence has been stolen.
Taken away by everything you currently see,
Whatever you see, you never say.
Those scars are buried deep, but I see them
They are over your heart, sweet child

Sweet little soldier boy, my child you're so torn
Sweet little soldier boy, has it been this way since you were born?
Sweet little soldier boy, my dear now come on home
Sweet little soldier boy, it's time to leave that danger zone

Soldier boy, you have made my tears flow
Oh, how I truly miss you so
Why was it that you never came home?
My child, I walk to the place I hate to go...
The place you lay, you precious soul
At least I know that you finally rest

Sweet little soldier boy, I can hold you no more
Sweet little soldier boy, it hurts me to think of what you saw
Sweet little soldier boy, your bravery is in everyone's commends
My dear sweet soldier boy, I will meet you at the end
