Mothers Day Challenge

I know that the UK and the USA have different dates for mothers day (UK is the 11th March) and USA (13th May) So I wondered after the success of the Valentines challenge if anyone was up for another challenge?

To write and post here a poem in any format or style with the theme of Mothers day. It can be as serious or quirky as you like just for the fun of it as a celebration of Mothers. Best wishes Milly x

    Hi Miss Milly :)

Another great featured thread from you..
So I will kick off with posting one.

    Mothers Day (Acrostic)

    May I take this
    Opportunity to eternally
    Thank you for the
    Heart that was
    Exhaled from the
    Recital you
    Sung so loudly for and

    Dedicate a chorus of my
    Appreciation with love
    Year after year

    Much love
    Michael :)xx

    Dearest Mother

    Oh dearest mother
if only time entwined and did reverse,
I would visit thee and no other
    for historic landmarks I'd traverse
to see you, with me, and my brother.

Take me to a time and stall
so I warm in your miracle embrace
where your arms were my Great Wall,
and oh that smile upon your face
like a thousand daisies about to fall.

    Hard and long you slaved
though all the wares bestowed to us,
    the futures you lovingly paved
all my stars you held - did truss,
    each, beloved memory I saved.

    If selfless was an art
then you were more than artist!
Not only love did you impart
but I witness; your heart's the largest,
my beginning, was merely your start.

I grew to sing - you know
    alike the lullaby's you tuned
    each baritone-note - a flow
    you bequeathed and crooned,
in dreams - sing me again, high n low.

    So for this Mother's day
    I devote in hearted words
the psalms of my inner way
    chirpier than all the birds;
my undying love - on this Mothers day.

    Hey Up Mam
    ===========

I know you are not here
And it's sad that I'm not down hearted
But I suppose we shared some giggles
Like the time you coughed and farted

    I was an involuntary action
    For you were getting old
    You couldn't stop the cough
And that pump you couldn't hold

I could have died on the spot
My eyes were shocked and wide
    But you never even blinked
    And brushed it all aside

You did not lead a fulfilled life
And you had the burden of 4 kids
One of us taken away too soon
But hey! the rest of us still live

I hope you're with him now
But don't succumb to his charm
Instead give him a present from me
And punch him in the arm

I had absolutely nothing at all in mind lol. Every piece is a total delight for very different reasons. The challenge is to help get everyone's creative juices working without the stress of a competition. Just to write for the joy of it a poem for Mothers day be it serious, funny, wacky doesn't matter. Its just free expression. You had me chuckling from the start so well done and thank you for participating in the challenge

All my best wishes Milly x

Hi Milly I thought I give it a try

    For someone special like you

This is in honor of a woman
    that never complained
    sacrificed her home,
a stranger at first then became my mother.

    A woman
that walked me through the process of starting over, rebuilt my trust
    repaired my self worth.
She introduced me to others as her daughter.

That is the mom I had and remember
    she made me feel loved.

    A lovely idea Milly :-) x
    =^.^=

    Sweet Child of Mine

My eyes are propped with matchsticks
    I haven't slept for weeks
My clothes all stink of baby barf
And my hair's matted in peaks

This tiny human rules my life
    His wish is my command
How can someone that can't yet speak
    Come with so many demands?

    I can't remember a single thing
    I've so got 'baby brain'
I provide the food at one end
Change a nappy and do it all again

Yet as he suckles at my breast
There's a feeling like no other
Suddenly life is perfect and good
    I have a child and I'm a mother.

    Fabulous thread Milly

you cared for me inside you
in total 8 months and 3 weeks
you taught me to smile even
    when I was poorly, weak

    you've chased away monsters
that used to hide under my bed
along with those I've fought off
that found their way inside my head

    you taught me many things
    mainly right from wrong
when things weren't going my way
you told me to keep strong

    we've laughed, argued
    put the world's to right
    you've supported me
    filling me with light

of all the mothers that I know
    you really are the best
though I may be bias -
    you're better than the rest

If I only had the key (Mothers Day poem)

    Mother you will never know
how much you mean to me
how much love I have to show
if I only had the key

Pick me up when I am down
challenge me to be just me
    without you Id surely drown
    though often we don't agree

You nurtured me, from my birth
    comforted me, as a child
gave to me, the gift of worth
though you always thought me wild

My teen years were, much the worst
though you stayed still by my side
did you wonder were you cursed
or was it a look of pride

How many tears did you shed?
    regrets when you were alone
and the words you left unsaid
to a daughter now full grown

But here I am once again
to show you how much I care
wishing an end to your pain
and to offer up a prayer

All the years you've been my mum
Its time I repaid that prize
    for the woman I've become
it’s because you were so wise

    Mother you will, never know
how much, you mean to me
how much love, I have to show
if I only had the key

    Migration

I was a forgotten ugly duckling
    that found shelter under
    a hen's wings-

    adopted.

    Though I've long since
    flown the coop,
I'll never forget that we both
    were made of feathers.

These are all amazing poems and so different in styles and points of view.
Its been lovely to see so many Mother themed poems in one place and to see some of them nominated too. So big pat on the back everyone and thank you for participating in the challenge.

    Best wishes Milly x
