What Happened To Us?

A long time ago,
We thought we were one.
But years have past,
And we haven't had too much fun.
You were scared, so was I;
But I held fast,
And you decided to fly.
You ran in fear,
Tail tuck 'tween your legs.
And we both share a tear.
For the love we've lost,
For one another.

I know we must say good-bye,
Unto the past, and days gone by.
But through it all, our ups and downs
We fell, we laughed, and had our rounds.

I am not beautiful, though people tell me I am.
For beauty comes from within, and I am ugly there in.
We are all hideous and fearful beasts and yet here we are,
Standing in a few feet.
Of each others heart-broken state.
It's time to say good-bye and good-night for a while more.
