Living life as an African-American

by Jason   Feb 15, 2008

I'm Jason.
I'm one of the few guys out here who treats life seriously.
I'm a person of African ethnicity living in the USA.
I'm darn proud of my heritage.

Living life as a Black person ain't easy.
I know all about trying to make it out here with a tight income.
Being disabled is a blessing for me.
Since you might know of disabled people getting paid even without working.

Speaking of work, I know all about how looking for a new job ain't easy.
Seems like being Black is a negative when it comes to looking for jobs.
Because when the employer notices I'm Black when I turn in the application,
I might be lucky to get an interview at all.

Maybe some employers are reluctant to hire Blacks
Because some people of my race
Make me and my friend look like a disgrace.
You know, those brothers and sisters who live in hoods and use crime as their job?

My friend isn't that type of Black woman
She is mature, honest, and she wants to help reduce crime in society.
When it comes to guns,
We don't like it when those hood folks abuse guns by shooting people in other areas for no legit reason.

As for me, I am far from an evil person.
I mentioned my past qualities in poems before.
I like thrills.
But not thrills in the sense of doing what it takes to grab loot and items.

Another issue of being Black is hatred.
Now this isn't the 40's where I would end up in heaven for just being a so-called slave.
Little racism still exists among Blacks.

I know if someone ridiculed my friend for being a Black woman,
I'd ask the pathetic person nicely to please leave us alone.
Because you might be surprised at how she can defend herself.

I wouldn't mind helping her out in the self-defense.
Even if we weren't friends, I'd still defend her
Since she's a sister.
That being the common term for me meeting new Black women.

It's my belief that in order to make it out here for Blacks,
We all have to stick together.
At least the good Blacks have to stick together.
The evil Blacks need some serious changes to improve their lives.
At least they don't harm me for being a brother in the hood.

Actually, if all of us stick together, regardless of race,
The whole world would be more positive!
I do know if all Blacks were like my friend and I,
In terms of our common personalities.
The days of crimes and lost lives from murders would be over.
