Defining Love

by Rose   Mar 10, 2008

Heh. What is it?
Sure it's something that you feel
for someone or thing.
But what is that 'something'?
Can you describe it in words
such as you would use to describe a bird?
A tree? A house? A person?
No, you can't, because you
don't really know what it is.
How can you describe something
that you can't see? You can't hear?
You can't smell or taste? You can't touch?
And yet we believe in this intangible
thing we call Love. But why?
Because it's part of the game of Life.
You can call it the game within the game if you will.
But this game is even more complicated than the
game of Life. You don't play this game,
it plays you. And it doesn't play fair.
It plays with you such as a cat plays with a mouse.
Sometimes it takes you above the clouds to soar like
an eagle and when it tires of you it just lets you
go and you can only hope that when you land
it won't hurt as much as it did before. And there
are times when Love doesn't want to play with its
prey but goes straight in for the kill. It takes you
to the moon so fast that your head is still spinning
when you get there and will continue to spin until time
itself passes. You will never understand Love,
and when you do, that'll be the day you can describe it.
Until then it's just a word whose meaning is more
than its four simple letters imply.
