Elusive Day Dream

by Liisa Carberry   Mar 11, 2008

Crisp fall breeze swirling through her hair
Like endless leaves falling everywhere.
Time is ticking an uneven beat,
Her eyes are searching with inner heat.

Before she sees, she knows he's near,
A silent whisper slipping by her ear.
Tiny hairs prickle her neck and arms,
Her pulse quickens within its bounds.

His image waves through misty trees,
The one she knows from too vivid dreams.
With every step closer it becomes so clear,
Her face tilts to the sun to thaw her fear.

Dreams so crystal, too sharp to ignore,
Digging so deep, to stop them at the door.
As electric air slips along her spine,
He appears before her in breathless time.

A late summer storm brews the skies,
Dark clouds blazing in deep pooled eyes.
He takes her head in shaking hands,
While thunder booms across distant lands.

He searches her soul as he pulls her close,
Desperate for answers only she knows.
Her secret escapes into his endless gaze,
As lightning strikes she shows him the way.

With natures fury, they calm the storm,
Like warm summer rain, they are reborn.
Taking each other, and giving it all,
Together they linger like the last days of fall.

With a whisper of wind touching her face
She opens her eyes to this foreign place.
A tear slowly falling, a breath full of pain,
Realizing her dreams have just fooled her again.

Thank you so much for your praise.. the critique is very useful, and I will take it to heart!!! This poem was so hard to write, because I felt it as I wrote it, and I felt as though my emotions were getting in the way :) Funny thing about it.... it was not personal... it was all just a thought in my mind!!

Again.. I thank you and appreciate your opinions!!

Everything is so beautiful except for a couple of unrhymed lines(ie. arms rhymes with bounds?) which are the only things that stop this from being one of the VERY BEST poems I have ever read(and I have read a few). Great story, fantastic idea for telling it making this an outstanding read!
