Pain in Vain

by Mike Wilburn   Mar 13, 2008

I see and feel for those in fear
Encouragement scorned no comforting tears
Undeniable sadness questioning life's meaning
Solitary confinement between these lines
Understanding betrayed to narcissistic ways
A golden rule tarnished and unjust
Darkness and sorrow teases loves fickle gaze
Those left behind forgotten in the haze

The knife slices deep the cutters lament
Broken relationships skip the refrain
Unnoticed lovers wanting to be heard
The missing, broken and crushed egos beat
An indomitable chorus about the pain

I cry for you please cry for me
Lost and alone an outstretched hand waits
Who comforts and consoles the meek and forlorn
Stand by my brothers and sisters
Time will set straight realities bite
Grow up, grow old, impart your wisdom
For those that write inspire gratitude
A gift to one or many, freedom realized
