Dream to Fly (A tribute to David Copperfield)

by Kel   Mar 16, 2008

The curtain rises, the stage is set,
Trying to get the audience to place their bet,
I sit here, spotlight on me, hawk in hand,
I will attempt to leave the grip of the land.

The bird leaves me to my work as I let him go,
I will give these people a wonderful show,
I take a deep breath, as I lay myself down,
Clearing my head of all the gazes around.

Folding my arms over me, I think of great things,
Like my arms being a pair of powerful, beautiful wings,
I toss my cares away as I reach up, feeling the air drift,
Bring them both back down to my side, I begin to lift.

Higher and higher I float, high above the stage,
Above the world, above the gaze,
Floating here, feeling free,
Gliding in the air, for all the world to see.

I smile as I hear the crowd,
To myself I have made proud,
Leaning forward, I gently glide down,
Down to the welcoming feel of the ground.

I take a bow as the crowd praises and cheer,
This was my best performance of the year,
My name is David Copperfield and I won't lie,
For I had a dream, a Dream to Fly.
