No Footprints

...unravelling as songs will. to the swell of the silence in your head. so broken as you are when you listen. that is its appeal.

spreadwide like eager thighs to capture. what becomes of nights unaccounted and lovers scorned.

tall stoops in short cities. looking over the buildings they pretend. the sky asks and they answer as though the question were theirs.

long roads that don't go very far. engines admitting their lack of breath. as oxygen floods into every moment with a promise to find a reason to let these roads change us. forcing us to wait. while all that waiting becomes us.

time misleading. playing the wizard when it's only the curtain. all magic is already there in the faces that echo as heavy eyelids descend any spells were long ago cast.

you look for truth at every step, but you'll never find it. because it leaves no footprints.
