To The Fairest

A golden apple of the sweetest taste,
We mustn't let it go to waste.
But who will taste it's luscious skin,
Who, my dear, will ever win?

A golden apple thrown at our feet
To claim it's lips, would you compete?
Your hungry mouth is full of lies,
So who, my dear, will get the prize?

That golden apple was once mine,
but I found it wasn't fine,
So I gave it up, you took the chance,
And you began to dance it's dance.

A golden apple throwing out its heart
It pushed us so far apart
And though you won this lovely treat
Its taste seems rather bittersweet.

And, you find, as you begin to eat,
The golden apple is so bittersweet.
