The Marriage Proposal

by Broken Wings of a Forgotten Angel   Apr 1, 2008

I put a CD in the stereo
And lay back in the recliner
Old time jazz fills the room
Oh, the sweet memories

The year was 1964 and we were
In a beautiful dance hall
You were wearing a cheesy blue suit
While I thought I looked all that in a
bright pink dress that I made myself

You held me close
Saying "You're my beautiful doll."
I looked into your eyes
And you were all I knew, all I wanted

You got down on one knee
A million thoughts ran through my mind
My face reddened as you cleared your throat
"Will you marry me, my beautiful doll?"

I felt my heart pounding, screaming,
trying to rip out of my chest
I stuttered but the words eventually came out
"Yes I do! I love you!"

You rose to your feet and
Carried me away with your love
Years past and we are still happily married
Now as I look up from my hand
Where that ring is still wrapped around my finger
I see you on the couch flipping through the channels
You turn to me and we look in each others eyes
And you say "Wanna dance?"
