Salt Water to These Open Wounds

by Curing the Comon Cliche   Apr 2, 2008

Don't worry, dear
It's not your fault
Open wounds are what I am
Stinging from the salt

Salt into my open wounds
Stinging I can't control
My dear, I swear it's not your fault
'Tis the nature of my soul

Nature of my soul
Like the nature of a ghost
Summer ravens that fly away
Turn to fog upon a coast

Foggy coasts and crashing waves
These waves tear worlds apart
But there is more to shatter than just worlds
These waves shatter broken hearts

But standing on this frigid beach
Broken hearts you will not see
Broken hearts are taken by the waves
By the waves, into the sea

Yes, the ocean took me away
But thats not your fault
It's not your fault the wound is open
Or that ocean water's full of salt

For all of you who didn't know this, salt into an open wound hurts a lot. that makes my poem make more sense. ummm, its been a long time since i wrote a paragraph about the above poem so ill just say that, this poem was a lot of fun to write cause i made the first line of each stanza connect with the last line of the previous one. and if you notice the pattern it goes from talking about salt, to ghosts, to waves, to salt again. idk just something i noticed

    Don't worry, dear
    It's not your fault
Open wounds are what I am
    -so much meaning in that
also, i agree with gabby on this passage:
Yes, the ocean took me away
    But thats not your fault
It's not your fault the wound is open
Or that ocean water's full of salt
-shows how we can't control everything
    5/5!

this line was just...WOW. there's just so much explained in such few lines. being broken hearted causes ppl 2 shut down---like being carried away with a wave---and wen that happens ppl just give up on love which is like pouring sault in2 a cut---it doesn't make it better, and it doesn't make it wors, it just keeps the broken heart broken and hurting more--- b/c wen u shut down and give up u don't give any1 else the chance 2 heal ur heart and that causes lonlyness wich is the salt.
well anyway, beautiful poem, great ending like always 5/5

Once again..you've knocked me speechless. and we all know that doesn't happen often..wow jesse..

    Salt into my open wounds
    Stinging I can't control
My dear, I swear it's not your fault
'Tis the nature of my soul

^ i really loved the whole, my dear thing. i don't know. it almost seemed mocking to be that sweet and use a pet name when speaking of pain..

    Nature of my soul
Like the nature of a ghost
    Summer ravens that fly away
Turn to fog upon a coast

    ^ summer ravens fly away...wow...

But standing on this frigid beach
Broken hearts you will not see
Broken hearts are taken by the waves
By the waves, into the sea

^ "broken hearts you will not see" OH! the irony! it hurts!!

Yes, the ocean took me away
    But thats not your fault
It's not your fault the wound is open
Or that ocean water's full of salt

^ i loooooove the last line. simply...amazing. it's just such a simple statement. but it completely captures how unable we are to control so many things...

    great job. again. darn you.
