Forever Goodbye

We all walk in
quiet and crying
Nothing's even
happened
yet
He lies there
in his bed
eyes are closed
I'm not the only
one who
doesn't understand
it all
mom's not crying
she's just staring
I don't think anyone
knows how to feel
cry because he's
leaving
smile because he
won't be hurting
His breathing comes in
shallow attempts
gasps let us know
he's not gone yet
the heart monitor
beaps it's song
sad and slow
his eyes are suddenly
open and fearful
they look all around
but they see nothing
outside a bird chirps
happily
children laugh
down the street
family starts to wonder
is it now
how will we act
if it is?
I can't watch
anymore
I leave the house
and stand outside
inside i hear a scream
then more crying
my mom comes outside
and i hold her
it's the first time
she's cried
and for the first time
my child- like
innocence on life
is gone
he has left
we're all sad
forever goodbye...
