Serenity

by InvisibleManiac   Apr 4, 2008

Since the dawn of mankind war has raged
Bitter and vicious like an animal caged
But only when we are free of hate and strife
Can we truly enjoy the serenity of life

Sometimes the noise of life can overwhelm
So we take ourselves to a quieter realm
Far away from the screams of violence
And find comfort in the serenity of silence

For some the silence is far too tame
They prefer the cries of battle and flame
And so that front line they charge and cross
For honour and glory in the serenity of chaos

Tread carefully the chaos of conscious thought
Lest you find yourself trapped and caught
Within emotions and visions that make you weep
Until you fall to the serenity of sleep

But even our dreams won't last forever
Lost in the battle to stay alive, however
Our clocks still tick away like a simple rhyme
As they succumb to the serenity of time

There's nobody that time hasn't caught
No matter how much we've battled and fought
It will one day come and take your last breath
And at last you'll know the serenity of death
