Undeserving of friendship

by charlotte   Apr 5, 2008

I don't deserve a lot of things
i don't deserve friends who give me wings
i definitely don't deserve friends like you
and within my stupidity lies the proof
you'll be with me through thick and thin
and with words of gratitude i don't know where to begin

people i never classed as those who cared
are the ones who when alone were always there
people i thought i could trust and believe in
are when i needed them most were the ones that were leaving
I'm finding true friendship
in people like you
and learning that friendships are good to renew
as some do go stale and friends can grow cold
the ones that are there when you're down you must hold
friendship's no fable
or a myth it's a bond
or a family connected that grows strong
by believing in each other and what we all do
that's how you know they'll be there for you

I've been shown where to trust and where secrecy stands
and sometimes both can lie hand in hand
if i learn to trust in the right people
then their secrecy stands tall and meaningful
my poetry is not of a Hemingway class
but who ever liked to compare to the past

as i look to the future there is one thing i know
things will be hard if i go it alone
so as i turn to continue and get back on track
I'm happy to know that my friends got my back
I'll be there for them
as they are for me
my friends
my backbone
my unrelated family
