Fallen Angel, Armourless Knight

by Curing the Comon Cliche   Apr 7, 2008

Burning across the sky
A falling star
Burning toward you
It won't land too far

Falling star
Make a wish
Go to the crash site
Find the star in a ditch

You see something shining
Your wish the star brings?
No, what is this?
Halo, blood on broken wings

Is this even possible?
Should you call the police?
Or give it a hand?
Help it to its feet?

You find he's still breathing
Though there's blood on the ground
Go get some help?
Does he want to be found?

He parts his broken lips
To tell you a story
Accidental fall from the sky
His eyes void from glory

Told you to bear witness
He's got no strength to fight
So dies broken angel
Bye, armourless knight

Hardly an end to a poem
Or anything at all
But to all fallen star wishers
Don't let your angel fall

Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like 'maybe we should be just friends' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a real lets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love.

my favorite line! the problem is, some people don't know they have an angel unlit they watch it fall. and that's quite a powerful quote at the end but i agree with every word! 5/5
