Separate Lives

by ilikepurple222   Apr 14, 2008

She sits there.
One table across from him.
He sits there.
Looking her way every chance he gets without her knowing.
Truth is, she knew all along.
That's what came between them.

They sit alone in a room.
Neither speaks to one another.
No eye contact is normal.
He faces her direction.
Sitting there with that deep thinking face.
The one he made so often.
The one that left her confused.
She never knew what he was thinking.
Could never tell what he was feeling.

They sit alone in silence.
Like old friends now living separate lives.
No smiles.
No waves.
Nothing.
She can't think of anything to say to him.
All she knows is that he disappointed her.

One day.
She passed him on the stairs.
He looked at her.
She looked at him.
She finally looked him in the eyes.
And quickly looked away again.
