Wind-Up People

by toby cunningham   Apr 20, 2008

These wind-up people
Wind on down,
As they stare quietly
At the underground.

Their lives so simple
Seem so strange,
The blue skies above them
Soon bring rain,

But they see no reason
To complain.

Plastic personalities
Are all the rage.
Is it impossible
For us to change?

They ask for nothing
In return,
They never regret
An opportunity spurned.

This is a lesson
We could learn,

As thoughts and words
Around us burn.
We are not stuck in vain,
We can still be changed.

A landscape like
A canvas blank.
With crisp white snow,
The horizon sank.

The hands on the clock
Move with sound,
If we look now there
Is no-one around.
