The End of the World

by Verity Han   Apr 29, 2008

One day I decided to walk to the end of the world
Where the skies are dark
And the clouds are gray

The sun was shining that fateful day
The wind was whistling
The birds were singing

I walked down the old worn road
Where the carts tumbled by
And the children ran

I stopped by the greatest oak to rest
And spotted a dead leaf
As it lay in peace, undisturbed

I walked down the old worn road
Where the carts tumbled by
And the children ran

I stopped by the greatest river to drink
And spotted a dead fish
As it lay washed away

I walked down the old worn road
Where the carts tumbled by
And the children ran

I stopped by the greatest bush to eat berries
And spotted a crumbling castle
Dark walls collapsing into rubble

I walked down the old worn road
Where the carts tumbled by
And the children ran

I stopped by a large boulder for shade
And looked around
Bleak, endless, dark

I walked down the old worn road
Where the carts tumbled by
And the children ran

I stopped at the edge and peered around
The air was thick
The once living were dead

At the end, there was nowhere to go
I had no road left
To travel

So I sat at the end of the world
And thought
And sat

I peered down into the darkness and spied two things
The dark
And the light

I understood immediately the meaning to this
In darkness there is light
In despair there is hope

I walked away from the end of the world
Where the skies are dark
And the clouds are gray
