Department Store Love

by Lisa A Kessler   May 4, 2008

Mom, you bought me a coat when,
a hug would've have been warmer.

You bought me candy when,
a kiss would've been sweeter.

I enjoy the new MP3 player,
But "I love you" sounds more like music.

What happens if my heart gets broken?
Will you help ease the pain or buy me a new one?

What happened when I scraped my knee?
Did you kiss it to make it feel better?

No, you bought me a toy!

Love comes from the heart,
not a credit card.

So next time I wear my new coat or listen to my new
MP3 player, I'll think of you and all the love
you bought me!
