Joys of War

by sweet escape   May 10, 2008

Bloody bodies line the floor,
some are propped up by the door.
Bullets whiz by your head
as you sit filled with dread.
What will happen today, tomorrow, the day after that?
Will you still be here, or among the dead in this combat?

Over your death, will your loved ones cry?
Never having said their good bye
life no longer means what it once did
to these who have lost their lovely kid.
How can they believe in what they once thought
with their child left out there to rot?

So be my guest
go do your best
for this country you love,
that you put far above.
When you run out and joining this fight,
be sure you're ready to use all your might.

Sick with worry, your loved ones will wait
waiting for the call that will seal fate.
Alive or dead they will wait for you.
Just think it over before they have to.

This is the kind of poem that will make people think, and I like poetry like that. It's not the usual cliched topics and you took a chance, so kudos to you for doing that.

    Nicely penned. An insightful read.
