Oblivion

by Torrence   May 13, 2008

I dreampt a dream of darkness,
Oblivion by the moonlight.

Within its swirling depths I happened
to glimpse upon some drifting, twisting truth
hidden within brilliant flashes and hellish fears.
Her name alone was temptation
Her wicked smile Hell.
And every modest impulse left me,
Til I came alone to sanity.
Heavens heights could not contain the screams
Hell's depths could not silence the cheer.
Within the living, lifeless mess I felt at home
Confined on all sides by eternity
Confronted at every turn by some ghost
of the truth of you and me
And above it all a halo formed
Pure and glorious
Trumpeting tunes into my heart and mind.
My soul was forfeit the instant I opened the door by closing my eyes.
The terror of absolute beauty
The true bliss of hate
The baleful suffering of elicited laughter
And the sorrowed tears of all those I've wronged,
The wails raised as a banner above this kingdom
of everything and nothing so intricately intertwined.
I breathed my last and dove deeper,
Finding nothing to comfort me or end my sorrows.

Alas, so it is, that I now realize
Oblivion is better left to the gods.
