I'm Not Too Old To Break Friends

by Hannah Mhairi   May 17, 2008

I want to know, how can you hate me,
For who I've been before,
Yes I know, the scars still show,
But I've become so much more.

I'm going to slip up a time or few,
Even more so, with the 'help' of you,
And before I fully see this through,
There's something I've got to do.

You don't treat me like a friend,
I want you to know before I call it an end.

I will get by without you,
I won't be dragged under the ground,
I won't come running back to you,
I can turn myself around.

One day I hope you see,
You had a friend in me.

I let you walk over me,
Listened to insulting names,
But it's too much to take,
That you don't see me the same.

Don't you see it's wrong to judge,
Especially a friend about their past,
I don't suppose you'll even realise it,
When I walk away at last.

Don't consider me mean, I'll be by your side,
Should you find you need me any day or night.

I will stand strong by myself,
Keep my head above the ground,
I am not one to carelessly,
Throw friendships around.

But after thinking, in the end,
Non-existent things don't mend,
And I'm not too old to break friends.
