The Couple

by H E Losey   May 26, 2008

The blazing fire radiates it's warmth
Encompassing the couple as they reminisce
As many years unfold within the flames
Till once again they experience their first kiss

As the fire consumes the oaken logs
So the years have consumed the lover's youth
The flickering light and crackling sounds
Lull the couple into the sleepy dreams of truth

The dying embers give off their final glow
As the years have slowly stolen youth from the two
So the fire's light and warmth fade to an end
The couple sleeps, their tomorrows too few
