Head held high

Head held high

A strong young lady she was
with her head held up high
until she met him
no tears fell from her eyes

then here he came
he promised her the world
and everything was nothing
but lies he had told before

this wouldn't be the first girl
it wouldn't have been the last
he thought he could downgrate her
that he would always get his way

he would hit and bruise her
and so much more that can't be said
he thought that she would learn his ways
that she was nothing but his slave

but this girl would not stand it
she would no longer take this
she held her head up high
no matter what pain

she would show him
she was strong that he couldn't
break her soul she wouldn't show no fear
for a man so sick and cold

he tried so many things
determined not to let her win
he would teach this lesson over
and bring her endless days of pain

she held her head up high
never gave him a second look
she did the only thing she could
she would opened the holy book

she pryed at night that he would change
to the wounderful man he lead her to belive
but things only got worse she knew
that she must leave

she packed her things in a rush
as she crept slowly threw the house
she picked up he sweater ready to run
the gas candle knoked over

the flames were to high to put out
she didn't want him to die
she tried to wake him up
but the attemps ment nothing he was already was to drunk

she left and tears went trailing down her face
she knew she could not help him
that this was now his fate
before she left she bowed her head and said

lord althou he's bad
please take him to heaven
and teach him how to be a good man
she left with her head held high she did all she could do
