Blind, death, numb

by fake smiles and lost promises   Jun 14, 2008

There once was a girl with no eyes,
Though she saw straight through every disguise,
Through Grief and through glee,
Still Sightless was she,
So she prayed "Oh my dear God let me see!"

There once was a boy with no ears,
So he knew of no lies and no fears,
His silence sincere,
And world unclear,
So he prayed "Oh my dear God let me hear!"

There once was a man with no heart,
So bitter and numb played his part,
His life less than real,
His heartache conceal,
So he prayed "Oh my dear God let me feel!"

The girl with no sight, God ended her plight,
But she saw what was purely demise,
For sanity mock what a sight such a shock,
She decided to gouge out those eyes.

For when she had saw such a world of flaw,
A place where no beauty could find,
So brutal a case and so wicked a place,
That she found she preferred to be blind.

The boy with no sound, God's pity had found,
But the world held nothing but jeers,
For what it destroys, the gut wrenching noise,
He decided to slice off those ears.

For when he had heard not the song of a bird,
Merely worldly, riotous clef,
The world he found such a hideous sound,
That he found he preferred to be deaf.

The man of no love God heard from above,
So quick was to catch Cupid's dart,
But love so soon lost and such agony cost,
He decided to tear out that heart.

He found himself struck and he found himself stuck,
For so soon down to heartbreak succumb,
Of love and of hate and so painful a fate,
That he found he preferred to be numb.

I love the rhyming at the beginning/ middle of this poem. I like how you portray the shock and the newness of getting back things so common to the majory of people. You show a more negative view, which, I think, people in those circumstances probably wouldn't think like that... maybe, maybe not, who knows.

    I like this. Well done
