A winter walk

by Orchid Man   Jun 16, 2008

Today I walked to the forest via the path along the canal bank.......
....the calmness of the water looked so cold and lifeless
Not even a fish leapt out to say, "Hello," nor did a roaming barge sail by
The only greeting I felt were the arms of the biting winter wind.

For a change the sky was clear and was dressed in its blueness
There were no clouds to bring soft shadows upon the canal pathway
Clusters of bluebells shook their heads as the wind played amongst them
Orchid Lady I wish you had been well enough to come walking with me.

As I reached the forest; leafless branches seemed to reach down.......
....it was as though they were apologising for their lack of greenery
The forest floor was covered in once proud leaves; now full of nature's colours
Yet from this decay, spring would herald a new season of joy and wonder.

Sweetheart, I miss walking with you; I am sure your animal friends do too.......
....they must know you are not with me as I haven't seen one furry squirrel yet
Even your favourite flowers have hidden their beauty from me.......
....perhaps they are waiting for you to walk by before wearing their finery.

It feels so strange to be here without you - the entire forest seems to be lonely
I understand this loneliness for without you nothing is stirring; not even the birds
Orchid Lady 'we' all miss you this morning and I feel my hand searching for yours
Sweetheart, I am coming back home right now; as my home is with you.
