Unsure

I watched you walk away when I was ten
like you didn't even care at all
No birthday cards on the 24th of the fifth month of every year
You know the date, you know the time
at least you should you were there

I got a picture worn with time of me and you at grandma's in the fall
you were holding me tight in your arms
while I was fast asleep after having a ball
you smiled down at me with tender eyes
but a picture don't mean a thing after all this time you've been gone

when I was five I got in trouble for playing in grandpa's shed
you laughed and told him "she's only just a kid"

A year later you sat with me all through the night
it was that dream again
the one with the big mean dog chasin' me in the night

when I was seven you read to me for hours after dark till I fell asleep, chicken pox on my arms

At nine I was in trouble agian for running through the swamp in my sunday clothes
I wanted to be one of the boys and have a little fun
You grinned at grandma and said "she's just like her brother is"

For my tenth bithday we went camping at the lake
you spoiled us kid rotten with all the snacks and treats
Like renting us those bikes so we could race around the lake
And taking us fishing in the rain

Daddy what happen to those days
what happen to the "I love you"'s just becuase
And where did you run to when you got sick of us?
Daddy where did you go? and why ain't you here?
