4 AM

As I lay here in the dark
Another sleepless night.
Staring at the four corners of this room,
In the darkness things begin to creep and crawl.

Shadows dance, shadows fall.
Lack of sleep
You start believing monsters are real.
Seeing things out of the corner of your
Eyes that aren't even there.

You begin to wonder what you're more
Afraid of, your dreams or reality.
At a time like this when there is
Nothing else to do but think.

It takes you back to lost memories
You thought were forgotten.
You stare off into the ceiling above you
Feeling like a dead body with a trapped soul.

You contemplate on how if you could change
Certain things you have done in the past,
And how you would make it different.
Driving your brain completely mad.

You stare at the alarm clock for what seems like
Hours, dulling the little red numbers into your mind.
Wishing that you could close your eyes,
But it would be no use.

Before you know it, its 5:30 AM
The early morning sunrise leaks
Peaceful blue light into your window
And soothes you back to ease
As you get up to start another day.
