You Will Remember You and Me

by Nelle Kirk   Jul 1, 2008

I am going to learn to run away and never look back
I am going to cry on cue
I am going to paint my suit case
and go somewhere new
I am going to sing on canvas
it will be the most beautiful
painting you have ever heard
because I painted it with
the paint of my lungs
and it was of you and me
in life there are no time outs
only time in
but I am going to make my time count
put it on a scale
and weigh it out
and with every second compose a puzzle piece
and when I put it together
it will mean something
even if it isn't glamorous
and is ugly and cruel
because when you forget me
and look at your wall
at the picture I sang you
and the puzzle I made
you will find something
a fence post
that I carved our names in
in a heart
and you'll get this little grin
remembering you and me
and I will put that grin on
a scale
with every thought making a note
and when I am down
and get that ugly little frown of mine
the one you think is cute
I will sing it
out of key
but you will think its pretty
and I will call and sing it
into your machine
and you will remember you and me ...
