Florida

Florida

wrinkled hands patting the piano keys
cards glossing over a ceramic table
orange juice at 6am, sand castles at 7
batter waffles at 11 and bread making at 2
running down the steps as waves hit the deck
glimpsing as sea turtles slide back into the sea.

This is a peaceful place,
this is a sleepy place,
where fear has passed away
and warmth penetrates the core.
I am never cold or alone here,
I am never lost.

The ocean foam tickles me
as I roll in the sand
hold me closer daddy,
don't let the waves take me away.
crabs may pinch and sharks may roam
but the manatees are by my side,
watch as 1,000 babies with shells
scuttle quickly into the sea.
Dogs romp on the sand
we are all children here, dance and sing!
Let the tide drag me in and keep me
I'll float in the calm waters
hold me closer, sweet sea
don't let daddy take me away.

This is where books become magical worlds
and art flows as far as the imagination goes
the heat envelopes you in bare innocence
and freezing of the heart is a thing of the past
there are no tears on the face or restless sleeps
except when we had to say goodbye...

I am never cold or alone here.
I am never lost.

White gulls are calling me,,,
the full moon across the horizon
Lightning strikes the raging sea
as warm rain caresses my skin
I stand with my arms outstretched
I am alive.
