Mirror Mirror

by TheRevelation   Jul 10, 2008

Deep circles under my eyes,
Cover me up, put on my disguise,
Perfect soft skin, with no mark,
Eyebrows waxed with an arc,

Fingers painted with a shine,
Teeth flash a smile that is divine,
Blue eyes stare out at the sky,
Wearing clothes she didn't buy,

The time is ticking now, tick, tick,
The camera is ready, click, click,
Now they are done, you may leave,
Smile, don't unravel the lies you weave,

Take off your contacts and look,
Your knees stumble and shook,
Make up is gone, your skin pale,
Get up now, measure on the scale,

The paint is chipping, falling off,
Your skin is peeling, not so soft,
Mirror, mirror, this is the real me,
My frown, eyes, skin that you see.

This is simply amazing. The topic you wrote about is very common in todays society.. as pressure is cast upon young women to look perfect and flawless, things like anorexia do become more common.. and make up is an every day thing that people use to cover up their true selves.. all in the hopes to get one step close to perfection.
I loved how you changed it at the end, to yourself without all the fakeness. I think that the image you created there in the last stanza, is true beauty. Its a pity society doesnt look at natural beauty now days isnt it?
Well done.. it was a great write indeed and has earned a place on my favourites list. Not that i really have a favourites list.. but in my head i do :)

Great work, almost two half on a whole, or a mirror image, a back-to-front reversal of what we see and what we do not see, what is hidden beneath a disquise, a mask of perfection, correcting imperfection. The truth is we are the seen and unseen in one visual entitiy, us, naked and under a spot light, scruitinised by the most crytical eye, that eye is our own, for most of us see ourselves as imperfect, when in truth perfection is just that - imperfect as nature intended.

Love yourself first, so that others can too love you!

Well done and sorry avout my endless ramblings!
