This Shadow of Mine

by ImperfectBliss   Jul 12, 2008

I watch as this shadow follows me

Down this lonely road

Filled with people

When I turn to look at her,

She does not turn away

As everyone else does

She stares right back at me

Her dark eyes a reflection of my own

She holds her arms out to me

Beckoning, inviting me

To embrace her, and discover the things

About myself I have never known

She smiles a wide grin,

And laughs a tinckling little laugh

That sounds like a bubbling stream

Do not be afraid of the truth, she says

I'm not afraid

Just not ready

Not ready to face the cold, diamond-hard truth

Of myself

I turn away from her

And look ahead on my path

Behind me, she giggles

I smile a wry smile

And continue to walk down this spiraling road

And she continues to follow me

This shadow of mine...
