A Little Place

by Annie   Jul 22, 2008

The joy of being a child
A rush of memories
Come flooding back
Safe, secure, a place to run and hide

A young child cries,
But Oklahoma is so far away!
The child's grandmother smiles and says,
But Hartshorne is so beautiful.

She continues to speak,
We have acres and acres of land,
Lush forests, and small running creeks,
Grass as tall as you are.

Dangerous, dark, and deep memories
Accompany the painless thoughts
Times of trouble and anguish
A look into the secret "black" of her mind.

An ATV heading fast
For an old and dying tree
Slow down, it's okay
Quickly turn and wait for another day.

Racing to the pond side by side
Finding hidden emotions among the buried
I love you, you are amazing
Quickly hide before it's too late.

Running,
Hiding,
Sleeping,
Dreaming.

The same child- an adolescent
Remembers the safe haven
As her warm blanket in the winter
Her solitude, and comfort.

Silence,
Everything is just so
Chaotically,
Peaceful...
