As We Grow

by Jes Miller   Jul 23, 2008

When we were little
Our responsibilities were simple,
Like picking up after our toys,
Reading a short story to our parents before bed,
And eating everything on our plate,

But as each day passes,
The simple responsibilities fade away,
Instead now,
Each day that passes,
Brings new responsibilities,
Like doing well in school,
Taking care of our pets,
And maybe even finding a job,

But all of which,
Is all part of growing up,
We learned responsibilities when we were young,
And we will continue to,
Until our last day,

But babe,
We are young,
And we need to take on our responsibilities,
So take the job,
I know that may mean less time with me,
But this job is what you want,
And this job may just be coming once,
As for me,
You already have my heart,
And I can’t live without it
