The Lovely Lady of the River

by Joshua Lee   Jul 24, 2008

I dreamt last night

that as I approached the river

as I came ever nearer

and peered into the clearness

I saw a pair of gentle eyes

and hands with soft fingertips

hair that flowed like water

and a face with lovely lips

beckoning so seductively

and calling out to me

extending arms

such enticing charm

I had to set her free

This reflection

this lady of the water

reached out to grab ahold of me

she caught my shirt

as if to flirt

but pulled me under suddenly

wrapping arms around my waist

and kissing me across the face

she held me tight

I began to fright

I struggled hard, trying to fight

but to no avail

with her wicked tail

she plunged us quickly out of sight

I awoke in a sweat

still remembering the threat

so vividly and livingly real

I reached for the wall

suddenly feeling tall

as I hit my head on the ceiling

I turned on the lights

it was hard on my sights

but slowly the world became clear

locked in a room

in the middle of the river

I was trapped by the reflection

the lovely lady of the river
