Tonight I Saw A City Burn

by AQuietHeartBeat   Jul 30, 2008

Tonight i saw a city burn
And heard the screams that beg and yearn,
For a hero-a savior- someone to hear there favor,
And take there body's with no second thought or labor
And bring them to the green that angels savor.

Tonight i saw a city built,
By men who's heads hand low with remorse and guilt,
For the memory of the former city now reduced to filth.
Pictures help put things in place but we know it wont be the same,
till we find someone to blame
For the shame of the burning of the city in the night.

Tonight i saw a city stand,
by the dreams and hands of your average man.
A sea of skyscrapers now pierce the sky,
And I'm left wondering why the burning of the city in the night
had already been forgot.

Tonight i saw a man hang,
with no trial, or jury, or reason to take the stand
there was no slap on the hand
only a rope for him to hang,
For the burning of the city in the night.
