The Tower

by NightFlyer   Aug 3, 2008

A tower, high above in the blue dusk sky
Friends gathered neath astronomy's sacred place, amid stars
December 1969.

Above the trees like gods in the winter breeze
Telescopes pointed upward toward celestial splendors
Shining nebulae and double stars.

In shared refuge from a screaming world
Amid the safety of a smiling universe
Bathed in stellar rays and shielded
From the madness of knife blade crowds and raging fists.

Like an island in peaceful waters of space
Our friendships above rustling trees
On a boardwalk in a sea of branches
Swirling in the evening shadow's mystery.
