David Hallisey

A decade has passed since you last drew breath
Only now can I remember the laughs
I fondly take out the souvenirs
And the photographs

You're so young in comparison
To how we all look now
Your smile is quite infectious
But happiness it doesn't allow

We were so young back then
When you went for that midnight swim
You pushed Joanne in in off the jetty
And then went diving in

She ran back thinking it was a joke
That you had played on her
Expecting to find you in the room
Expecting to find you there

The moment that she entered in
And saw our puzzled stare
She realized what had happened
And we all followed her

We pulled you from the water
And tried our best to revive
Even when the doctors came
They said you may survive

But then shortly after
They came and said the worst
All the hopes and prayers we made
Were very quickly burst

You never really left us
You touched everyone you met
And although we were only friends
I haven't got over it yet

I hope there there is another life
A great heaven above
Where you have made a family
Full of joy and hope and love
