The Throne Of Darkness: Part 1 (STORY)

by My Mistakes   Aug 28, 2008

I'm standing in the corner, shrouded in darkness. The silk of my lingerie whispers softly against my skin. It was about two hours ago that I broke into his house. I had taken a shower and slipped into this blue outfit. Blue is his favorite color. Anyway, I then went down to the basement and and tripped the breaker to his bedroom. I step into the dim light provided by the flickering candles on the bedside tables to throw rose petals on the bed before silently slipping back into the shadows. Its almost midnight, he should be arriving home any minute now.
There, I just heard his car pulling into the driveway. Apprehension fills me as I listen to him close the front door, but I keep my cool so things go according to plan. It is so quiet that I can hear every move he makes. As I listen I begin to see his every move in my mind's eye. Just after coming in, I hear him move into the kitchen and open one of the cabinets. There is and audible clink as he takes a glass out of the cabinet. The sound of the running water must mean that he's getting a drink. Footsteps, he's coming to the bedroom now. I hold my breath when I hear him at the door. I can feel his hesitation as he realizes something is off, but not quite knowing what. I know what it is though...this morning when he left for work he left the bedroom door open, standing in front of it now; its closed. In my mind I see him shrug before turning the handle and opening the door. He walks in and closes the door before trying the light switch, which of course doesn't work. Thats when he notices the candles and rose petals. I can see the puzzlement clearly on his face. I watch from the shadows as he walks over and tries the bedside lamp, no go. At this point he no longer seems surprised and there is no longer an expression of confusion on his face. I watch him walk to the bottom of the bed to sit and take his socks and shoes off.
"Glad to see you Nora" he says. I'm surprised that he knows I"m here. Still in the shadows I ask "How could you have possibly have known that it was me?" He smiles and looks in my direction still not seeing me. "Who else could it have been?" he replies. I release my hold on the shadows that had been concealing my presence and stepped into the candle light.

I had been looking towards Nora's voice and seen nothing but darkness, when suddenly it seemed like the shadows just melted away and there she was. She was just standing there looking at me, her face a mask and her eyes the windows to her soul. Since I first met her she has always wrapped shadows around herself like a warm cloak. At first I had found it a little frightening but now, I'm just so used to it that it seems natural. I look at her and my breath catches in my thorough. Her auburn hair frames her face and brushes against her shoulders. Of course the camisole she's wearing is blue along with a pare of blue lacy thongs. With her slender waist and long legs, I find her absolutely breath-taking.
I hold my breath as she takes a step towords me, suddenly she is standing only a foot in front of me. I reach out and slide my hand down her arm, grabbing her wrist. "Why must you wear things like that?" I ask. She smiles and says "Because I know it bothers you." Her smile glints in the dim lighting. "Will you cut out these charades, we both know that your not here to seduce me." "Your right" she answers and before I know it she has the shadows wrapped around herself and is gone. I walk over and blow out the candles, and just then the light comes on and Nora walks out of the dark bathroom that adjoins my bedroom. "So, what is the real reason you decided to call on me right after I get off work?" She sits on the edge of the bed and expels a heavy sigh. "Well, I got a message from my father back home in my dimension. He told me that he has decided to make me Heiress to the Throne of Darkness. I don't know what to do"
Unsure of what I should do, I sit down beside her and put my arm around her shoulder. "I honestly can't give you any advise about what you should do. Until you popped into my life I hadn't even known that there were any other dimensions. I didn't believe in anything supernatural, well at least until you showed me what you can do with the shadows. Even then, I was baffled. And besides, I know nothing about how society works over there." I say frowning. "On the Plain of Darkness, compared to what you have here....we are so....uncivilized. I mean we still have slaves and your world freed them centuries ago. And we don't have the kind of technology that you do. I've gotten so used to living in this world, I'm not sure how I'd adjust going back there. Father didn't even give me a reason as to why he choose me, I have an older brother, and for Father to choose a younger daughter to take the Throne....Well, it's just unheard of." Nora sighs and throws herself back on my bed. "The only advise I can think to give you, I at least go home for a visit and try to figure out why your father choose you." I suggest. "What a family reunion that would be, I bet my brother Jonathan is in an uproar about Father picking me. He was so sure that the throne was his. Especially after I up and disappeared." Suddenly Nora sits up smiling. I know that look and it has me a bit worried. "Alright, I'll go, but...." "But what?" I ask unsure if I want to know the answer. "But," she says "your coming with me."
