When it Falls to Winter (for my dad)

by Mishka   Sep 11, 2008

I remember fall...
One of my favorite season
The leafs cascading down from the tree's
Fall over my head like rain
Every time the up swept breeze passed through the yard
And my sister would throw up the browns, yellows and orange-golds
From the pile we had raked
Then time after time we would dive into it
While the flutter of giggles escaped
From our lips
Dried with snot from the brisk weather
My father would come out with us to rake our back yard
While he would rake we would run around like excited puppy's
After he had raked
The dry brittle leafs into piles he would pick up me and my sister and put us into one of the large garbage barrels
And completely cover us

Then winter would come
And when that plow would come growling down the street we would run out to play
My dad would take us over to the snow banks in the front yard made form the plow
He would dig us tunnels and make forts
Some times he would chip big blocks of ice off the drive way and use those
We would come inside in our snow suits
Sopping wet from the slush
I'd hang up my hat and mitts and run up stairs to put on my Pj's
Grab my blanky and go to the kitchen in hopes that mom had made hot chocolate
My sister and i would drink it up fast while still hot and eat the baby marshmallows
After I'd curl up in the arm chair with my father and fall asleep...
This is the happiest memory I have of my Dad!
