After All That Time

by Alex Sparrow   Sep 19, 2008

He sat on a bench in the waiting area
Thumbing through the pages in the magazine
As he listened as they called for all the departure times,
while he waited for her to walk through the arrival gate

She has been gone for over a year
and they have only shared memories over the phone and online
They both know that they can make it,
Together or apart, they just know to be patient with time

He is not sure what he will say when he finally sees her standing there
Although he knows he will probably shed at least one tear
He will also smile wide and oh so bright,
When he sees her in the shining lights

She is thinking of how he will react when she gets off of the plane
What she will do, what he will say
Will her tears fall down like rain?
She knows despite everything, she will be with him and she will be okay

The plane finally lands, their hearts are beating faster
She walks into the room, she thinks finally, happily ever after
They both smile, they both cry
They know this is forever, after all that time
