Her streetlight.

by Ali   Sep 22, 2008

Confused nd torn shes caught in the middle of a tangled web. She can't win no matter which direction she tries to turn in. Shes stranded, dead center in her own twisted world.

His Son, her boyfriend, his mother, her best friend, his sister, her twin, there ex. Nothing makes sense when your standing at a redlight and there isn't any traffic. But thats where shes stuck staring at the bright red light as it blares back at her. shes all alone as she listens to her own thoughts speeding around the race track in her mind; and when the streetlight turns green and tells her to go she doesn't know which way to run. So she watches the light turn from green to yellow to red over and over again. Its saying: "run, get out of here." Its saying: "Slow down, take a breath" or "Stop! you can't leave." Although she never decides on one colour her mind just rotates like the old street light hanging in the middle of no where.

She tries to decide when and how to untangle these clours. She can't make things right for everyone but she wants to make the best of what she can, even if it means hurting herself.

She'd give anything for that little boy to have a dad, to be happy to see a smile. But she nows its not her place to say anything so she keeps quiet trying to figure out his thoughts in silence. Sometimes she wonders if shes the reason the streetlight is hanging there motionless in the first place. Really though it doest matter how it got there all that matters is why its there and how she cant get rid of it. Part of her is sure she is standing in the way of everything that shes just parked at the stoplight unable to move. Her tan is full but she has no power to stop on the gas.

Though through all the khaos and confusion the light never stops changing and her mind never stops wondering what if would be like if she could change the past. But she knows she'll never be able t. So she'll keep wishing every time the light turns green that she could run. Run back in time and fix all the mistakes made, all the hearts broken, all the hurtful words said. When the light turns red she'll wish that everything could just stop for a second and forget all the lies and pain they've caused. Finally when the light turns yellow she'll wish for the millionth time that someone could take a moment and remember a fairytale, a dream of forever and figure out when and how it all went wrong. To remember that one summer that lead them to where they are now. She'll wish that they could take there mistake in there hands and hold it forever and never let g. She is sure that mistake one day will be the best mistake f there life. Although she knows deep inside wishes are wishes for a reason and a streetlight will never stop changing its colours.
