Shadowed Realm

by Alicia   Sep 22, 2008

The sun shine down and warms my bones.
Comfort radiates through me.
Trees shade my little world,
offering their branches as shelter.
I am home.

I live my days carefree.
Running and playing in my bubble of safety.
Happy to be left alone.

One day, a dark cloud looms on the horizon,
speeding toward me.
I run for the light,
but the darkness consumes me,
closing off my escapes.

The place I once played without fear,
now turn into horror filled dreams.

A shaft of light appears above my head.
I look up.
The sun shines weakly.
I run toward it.

Shadows move, the light begins to wan.
I stumble, but keep going.
My heart beat hammers in my chest.
Blood pounds thickly in my ears,
my breathing is the only sound.

The light fades away to nothing,
disappearing into memory.
I crumple to my knees.

My skin crawls from the silence.
In the desert of darkness,
I hide from the world.
Afraid to leave, scared to move.

Voices call to me,
but fear prevents my answer.
Terror become my friend,
dancing along my skin,
leaving tingles of depression.

A hand finds me.
I scream.
It pulls me from the horror,
leaving behind my world of bleakness.
Who is this?

That same hand rubs my eyes.
The darkness fades away to a nightmare.
Someone holds my hand.
The light shines above me.

The sun warms my bones.
Comfort and love radiate through me.
I am home.
