A Mother's Teardrop

by Lola Granny   Sep 27, 2008

Her tears stained the paper
after reading the article
from the pentagon on how
her son was killed in the line of duty
by friendly fire by another
soldier guarding a watch tower
placing metals and flag in hands
she endlessly stares at her son's
picture wearing his dressed blues
on the old piano and unwraps
the flag and places over her shoulders
chanting his name over and over again
her husband helps her to her feet
and leads her out the door for their next
visit to his marked tombstone
