Beautiful Words

by LockedInEternity   Sep 30, 2008

So where do I even commence?
My feelings, like a drifting cloud, never stop.
I once adored the way you slid your fingers through mine,
The way you gazed into those windows they call eyes
and lied to me about how beautiful they were.

I also once admired you for being so tender and caring,
for being so simple and honest and sweet.
But behind simple and honest crept the truth of complicated deceit.
It was so easy to hear those charming false words you spoke,
So effortless to rely on them that even the most miniscule piece of reality stained their perfection.

They were all beautiful words, nothing more.
Hovering over my head like soft drops of rain before they fell.
And when they fell, they fell hard.
As if a rain cloud was collecting over my head,
Those beautiful words drenched me in sorrow.

One at a time, like eggs, they cracked.
Revealing the ghastly reality that burned me like a scorching coal.
The actuality that you never meant to love me
The reality that all you meant to do was faze me.
Make me believe for just enough time to use me for the night.

Thinking back - I still smile upon those beautiful words.
How softly they'd float from your lips as you peered at my exterior.
For you never directed them at my soul, you never even saw my soul.
All you needed was the outside - just for long enough,
long enough to use me for the night.

I hope you're satisfied with your reward.
Those beautiful words were kryptonite, the sword that pierced me.
Like a monster you took to my weakness and worked it to your prevail.
Like a villain, you fought the exterior I hid behind
And like an idiot, I let you crush me with a handful of - beautiful words.

Some words really popped out to me in this poem, they were unique and the word choice was well done throughout the entire poem. The poem was lengthy, but well worth the read in the end. Great work. 5/5.
